#CoachChrisSays Jr. NBA Philippines returns with a bang for its 10th year

Jr. NBA Philippines presented by Alaska, now on its 10th year of teaching the fundamental skills and core values of the game at the grassroots level in an effort to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience returns to the Philippines in a tip off with the Jr. NBA Coach of the Year Program last January 20 at the Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati. This year’s program is led by Coaches Craig Brown and Chris Sumner.
More than 60,000 players and coaches have participated in the Jr. NBA Philippines program since 2007.

Jr. NBA/ Jr. WNBA presented by Alaska is comprised of four stages among which are skills clinic in schools and communities, Regional Selection Camps, a National Training Camp and an NBA experience Trip.

Over the 10 years of its existence the program has produced notable alumni that made an impact in Philippine Basketball namely:

2007
Aljon Mariano – First Jr. NBA All-Star drafted into PBA
Raphael Banal – Jr. NBA All-Star drafted first over-all in the 2016 PBA draft
Kiefer Ravena – Two-time UAAP Champion and MVP; former National Team Member

2010
Kib MOntalbo – UAAP Champion

2011
Kobe Paras – Creighton Bluejay guard; former Under -18 National Team Member

2012
Aljun Melecio – UAAP Champion
Coach Aldin Ayo – UAAP and NCAA Champion

Here are the dates to remember for this year’s Jr. NBA/ Jr. WNBA program: 

February 3 – Coaches Clinic at Xavier University – Ateneo De Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro
February 11-12 – Regional Selection Camp – Xavier University – Ateneo De Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro
February 25-26 – Regional Selection Camp – Manuel Enverga University Foundation, Lucena
March 11-12 – Regional Selection Camp – Don Bosco Technological Center, Cebu
April 1-2 Regional Selection Camp –Don Bosco Makati
May 12-14 National Training Camp – Don Bosco Makati and SM Mall of Asia

This year’s Jr. NBA/ Jr. WNBA is presented by Alaska with official partners CloudFone, Gatorade, Globe Telecom, and Panasonic. Official ball and supporting partner is Spalding.
