The producers of the long running popular and biggest television talent search American Idol had announced last year that season XV will be the last staging of the show. American Idol became an instant hit when it debuted in 2002 with Simon Cowell at the forefront.
However, after producing talented recording stars like Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson and staying at the top of the ratings for almost a decade, the show will finally come to close.
The popularity of American Idol has been declining for the past several years. It’s airtime in Fox Channel has been significantly reduced. Subsequent shows like The X-Factor and The Voice (which has almost the same format with American Idol) have overtaken the show’s television ratings. What caused the diving popularity of the American Idol? Did the show become bland and boring especially when Simon made his exit or is it the influx of less talented hopefuls?
