Late September of 2015, a lot of posters the size of a coupon bond with the caption: “Duterte & Federalism” were posted on walls & lamp posts from along the National Highway starting Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa up to Alabang, near the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).
October 12, 2015, Duterte wrote a letter to his constituents in Davao City specifically stating: “I will not run for the Presidency. I shall be retiring from Politics.” He even went on to say that he will shoot anyone who forces him to run.
Strangely though, it was also during this time that Duterte Ballers were being distributed in Las Pinas & Muntinlupa areas. Of course it is expected that these ballers had been distributed in Davao City and nearby provinces already.
November 2015, Duterte announced he will be running for President.
To those who remember, Duterte was made a “Substitute” candidate for Martin Dino. The thing is, Dino’s Certificate of Candidacy (COC) was for the Mayoralty post of Pasay City. Duterte had to file another COC which by the way, was way past the deadline set by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) & the Omnibus Election Code. How did Duterte “manage” to have his COC approved despite it being past the deadline prescribed by Law? Your guess is as good as mine.
Even when the Campaign Period hasn’t officially started yet as prescribed both by the Constitution & the Omnibus Election Code, Duterte, just like Roxas, Binay & Poe had been going on “speaking engagements” all over. Curiously, the so-called “speaking engagements” included their Platforms of Government. Around this time, Duterte had been advocating Federalism under his Presidency if he wins. More curiously, Duterte never even mentioned any plans of dismantling the Political Dynasties while pushing for Federalism.
After Christmas, Duterte’s TV ads started airing. The same thing goes for Roxas, Binay & Poe. Again bear in mind that the Campaign Period set by the Constitution & Omnibus Election Code hasn’t started yet.
January 2016, Duterte had been boasting that “He will rid the country of all criminal elements” in 3-6 months. He also insisted during his “speaking engagements” that he doesn’t have “Money & Political Machinery” as compared to Poe, Roxas & Binay.
As early as January 2016, Duterte’s expenditures just for the TV ads alone already amounted to hundreds of millions. Expectedly, the same thing can be said of Poe, Binay & Roxas. “Survey” results also started coming showing 4 candidates’ standing & ranking for a specific period.
Very curiously, survey results by both Social Weather Stations (SWS) & Pulse Asia never included the name of Miriam Defensor Santiago, even after she had officially filed her candidacy.
Sometime in early March 2016, Duterte allowed the New People’s Army (NPAs) to “convene” at a Hotel in Davao City and “discuss” the rate charges for the NPA’s “permit to campaign” & “permit to win” for local candidates.
I had intentionally not included Duterte cussing Pope Francis and succeeding events to somehow “shorten” this post.
Fast forward to April 2016.
Duterte’s earlier BOAST of “ridding the country of all criminal elements in 3-6 months,” suddenly changed to: “I will suppress criminality in 3-6 months.”
April 27, 2016, Duterte vehemently denies having Bank Deposits in BPI Julia Vargas branch to refute allegations thrown by Trillanes.
April 28, 2016, Duterte admits having several Bank Accounts in BPI, contradicting his own denial and went on to say that his Bank Accounts do not amount to Millions to once again refute allegations made by Trillanes.
April 29, 2016, Duterte, for the 3rd day in a row, once again contradicted himself and admitted that his Bank Accounts in BPI indeed amount to Millions & not 211 million as alleged by Trillanes.
Duterte HIMSELF admitted that most of the money on his BPI Bank Accounts were “Birthday Gifts” to him. This directly violates the Anti-Bribery Clause of the Constitution.
Because of what Trillanes exposed and Duterte’s defense and contradictions of himself, it released a lot skeletons in Duterte’s closet, which did the the same thing to Trillanes.
I won’t even discuss here how Duterte contradicted himself on all the events related to the rape joke of Missionary Jacqueline Hamill, who, autopsy reports indicated could have gotten killed by bullets from the Rescue Team and NOT from Knife wounds on the throat as claimed by Duterte.
This is a chronology of events where Duterte flip flopped (lied and contradicted himself)
If Duterte keeps on contradicting himself on every turn, how does that make him credible? How does that give him the Moral, Political & constitutional ascendancy to become the Next President of the Republic?
As his fanatics insist & use as their slogan: “change is coming“, leads to the question: Just what kind of “change” will Duterte bring to the country?
If Duterte keeps on contradicting himself, that means he is lying outright. And if he is pabago-bago, that only means he is doing pangga#ago and not pagbabago!
So what’s this talk about “pagbabago” again?
If you know that your preferred candidate had been proven to have willfully violated the Constitution, would you still vote for your candidate?
If so, let me ask you this, do you even understand what the Constitution is and what it stands for?
If not, don’t you think that it is long overdue for you to know and understand what your Constitution is?
Now, if after reading, knowing & understanding what your Constitution is, and still insist on campaigning & voting for your candidate, what does that make you? a slave or a citizen?
Wait, do you even know the difference between a citizen and a slave of a politician?
If you don’t know it yet, don’t you think it’s about time that you learn the difference?
And while you’re at it, also try to know the difference between subservience & patriotism.
You owe it not only to yourself and your forebears but to future generations of Filipinos to do the right thing and vote for the right reasons.
May i remind YOU that inspite of its imperfections, the constitution was drafted, written and eventually ratified for a reason and not just by some whims or twist of fate.
