SpaceX Rocket Carrying $200M FB Satellite Explodes on Launch Pad

A rocket operated by the SpaceX, an American aerospace manufacturer,  has exploded on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral in Florida where it was being test-fired due to launch on Saturday. Thankfully, no one was injured.

SpaceX said “an anomaly” had occurred while the rocket was being loaded with fuel.

The rocket’s payload, a $200M worth Israeli-made communications satellite for Facebook, was also destroyed, it added. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who is currently in Africa, said he was “deeply disappointed” to hear the bad news that the satellite had been destroyed.

“We remain committed to our mission of connecting everyone, and we will keep working until everyone has the opportunities this satellite would have provided,” he wrote on his Facebook account.
